Nuclear Transparency Watch is a European network created in 2013 to develop transparency in nuclear activities. It promotes the conditions for democratic transparency and effective public participation in the nuclear sector. It supports and assists national and local initiatives and civil society organisations seeing to promote transparency of nuclear activities. It favours the sharing of information among participants and the building of participatory review of nuclear safety arrangements when appropriate. Finally, it raises the voice of civil society in the European and national decision-making processes on nuclear activities and provide information to the European Union institutions and Members of Parliament.
This requirement of citizen’s vigilance is concerning all activities of the nuclear cycle: risks of outsourcing, the extending life of the nuclear power plants, the management of nuclear accidents and their financial coverage, the cost of nuclear safety in a difficult economic and financial context or also the radioactive waste management.
